Two days at sea in the Caribbean
Two days out of Fort Lauderdale and all is well. We are on our way to the Panama Canal via the Coral Princess cruise ship. All 2,800 of us are happily sailing past Cuba and Haiti on the way to our first port, Aruba.
Much to my delight, my all-too-easy motion sickness has not arisen on these relatively calm seas.
This trip is, of course, a vast departure from our usual travel mode of living in our motorhome “Howie”. Instead of quick water-saving showers, we are able to indulge ourselves in long hot soaks. We have flush toilets and no worries about changing the compost.
In fact, those are only the tip of the iceberg — we are living aboard a floating resort, with all the amenities. It’s such a far cry from our usual austerity that we are undergoing a bit of culture shock. When we RV-camp, “dressing up” usually means a clean pair of socks. Here on the ship, it’s actually coat-and-tie.
Wifi is available on-board, but it’s somewhere between 1G and 2G, very very slow. I will not be able to upload much in the way of photographs. But please be patient — I’m saving lots of photos and I will be able to write some decent posts when I get back to my home computer.
For now, I must publish posts by email, so I do not know how the photo(s) will appear in the post, and I have limited capability to edit them.
It will be comparatively easy to publish an occasional photo to my Facebook account, so please check in there now and then to get a micro-view of what we are up to.
Wish us continuing calm seas — here is our itinerary:
Sunday – Aruba
Monday – Cartagena, Columbia
Tuesday – Panama and Colon
Wednesday – Limon, Costa Rica
Thursday – at sea
Friday – Grand Cayman
Saturday – at sea
Sunday – Fort Lauderdale, Everglades
– – – and then our flight back home
