Patient Puppies Proudly Paraded
Although pets-while-travelilng can be a handful and a limitation in many ways, a LOT of RV folks simply wouldn’t be without their furry pals. RV-ers have cats, dogs, snakes, hamsters, and scores of other companions – but by far, dogs are the most popular, outnumbering all other contestants by 20 to 1.
Of the dog breeds, some RV folks will put up with the larger animals – – I met a woman once who traveled with three (3!) German Shepherd adult dogs. But most pet owners tend more toward the smaller critters, for obvious reasons. They “fit” better, and many of them travel easily along on laps, dashboards, and even on a headrest or two. (Yes, I know it’s not safe. They do it anyway. Don’t blame me, I’m just a reporter.)
Here in Quartzsite, with long hours spent away from the RV, tons of visitors bring their pets into the show (which is fine with everyone). This little guy is about 14” tall, and he is fine with being self-powered. Pretty macho jacket, too.
But strolling along with Fido (or Fidette) on a simple leash often just doesn’t cut it. For the long hauls, not to mention the pampered and tiniest of 4-leggers, other kinds of transportation come into play. Some of these little bitty things don’t look like they could make it down one aisle, let alone the miles of displays at this show.
Strollers are everywhere, and hardly a one carries a child. One, two, or even three dogs get the easy ride, with of course resident food and water bottles.
For even longer trekking, there’s always the motorized option – – –
Or, for the lowest possible pet maintenance – – –
No barking, no clean-up, no shots or vet bills.
Greg;
so enjoyed your subject and pictures and how right you are. My dear motherin law.,after her husband of 47 years died with cancer, travel from Everett Washington in her camper to Minnesota with her dog and cat. She was in her late 70’s. Enjoyed each day until she rolled her camper but survived without damaged toherslf and little to camper but she was smart enough to know when to park it at Ocean Shores. One dog in the pictures was just like her dog Toby. Thanks for the memory. Sylvia Ramsey, friend of Rita and friend of mine
So cute , lucky dogs
