Wheels and Dirt
Extreme wandering: If you ever camped – – if you ever drove on a dirt road – – if you ever climbed a hill that you wondered if you could make it up – – this is a place you would enjoy. This exposition is dedicated to the yearning to go a little further off the beaten path, maybe even to beat one’s own path on occasion.
There are vehicles from motorcycles to giant trucks, trailers from dinky little behind-a-Jeep things to full-blown off-road living quarters. There are flop-open tents, car-top tents, racks and rigs and accessories and gew-gaws. There are classes in how to navigate your 600-pound expedition motorcycle over off-road obstacles. There are brand-new vehicles and 50-year-olds that look brand-new. There’s an off-road driving course including a slender, rickety wooden bridge. There are power sources, shock absorbers, winches, cables, propane-fired outdoor showers, and pop-up privy tents. There’s a guy who looks like his dog (or vice versa). There’s a kid on a unicycle and a bear on a motorcycle. There’s even an aerial photo-drone catching the action from on-high every day. Words don’t do the job, so I’m just going to upload a representative bunch of pix.
Tonight, we’re going to see some film on (duh) trekking-style travel.
Hi Greg & Karin,
Finally had a chance to view your pictures and read your blog. Good stuff. I enjoyed it wishing I were along for the ride. We’ve been working hard trying to get our 1954 Cadillac up and running for the “Blessing” but unfortunately the freeze plugs would not hold so it looks like “Baby” will be staying home tomorrow. With regards to the WeGather site, Dave was to have presented it to the men’s club Wednesday night but I have heard nothing as to how it was received. Two more people are now active so that’s good. Fr. Eugenio is not one of them. Anyway, have a great trip. Think of us tomorrow at the hot rod blessing. The weather has cooled down so it should be a perfect day. Stay cool.
