Kern River valley sights
In no particular relationship to any day’s “main event”, we stumbled across a variety of shareable sights in our wandering. Here are a few of them.
Essentially a rolling junk-yard, I’m going to bet that this strange vehicle is a real eye-catcher anywhere it goes. It’s not clear that any DMV agent would have less than a heart attack if it came up for licensing – – so it probably doesn’t.
The famous “Tehachapi Wave” is observable in these cloud formations to the south of our location above Lake Isabella. Normally, these winds are invisible (but extremely attractive to soaring pilots). The unseen forces can carry pilots to world-record altitudes, all with no engine. Today, the powerful winds are traced by the moisture aloft.
Along the Kern, there are many opportunities for kayaking and rafting. This crew (shot out of Ralph’s window as we drove by) was letting into the river at the Johnsondale bridge. This section of the river is gently and placid, for it is above the dam. Excellent area for students and beginners.
