Life’s little stumbling blocks (pun intended)
CONCUSSION, a fascinating experience – – one minute, you’re happily going about your business, and the next, you’re wondering about permanent brain damage. Scary, humbling, and (very) time-consuming.
Short story, I simply tripped while moving back away from some furniture in my living room. My “aim” was perfect, and down I went, hitting the back of my head dead-center on the hardwood floor. I don’t actually recall the impact, or regaining consciousness; I just went back to watching TV until I noticed the injury.
Since then, it’s been doctors, CAT-scan, medications and consultations. And headaches. LOTS of headaches, pretty much continuous for several days. Quite a bit of nausea too. The scan revealed that I actually have a small crack in the base of my skull. Oddly enough, this is of little to no concern to the medical guys. All my neuro-testing, and the scan, shows that I’m not deeply damaged, no blood intrusion or neural fluid leakage. Spent nearly two days sleeping around the clock. Strange, it’s actually tiring to sleep that much.
So – – the little trip that Karin and I had planned is going to be put out just a bit. Days? Weeks? We can’t really tell right now. The neurologist has 50 years of head-trauma experience, and his good news: expected full recovery. His not-as-good news: full recovery takes anywhere from two to six weeks.
Just thought I’d let you know….
Oh greg i am so sorry to hear about that the good new is you will get better and the road trip will happen please say hello to karin for me and get better maria
I’m sorry to hear about your malady Greg. I hope you have a speedy recovery. It’s good to know that they didn’t find anything else in the CAT scans. You know, something unexpected.
WOW! You just never know what will happen from one minute to the next. Vacations can wait. Head’s, unfortunately, cannot. Take care of yourself.
